Program: The 2006 Time Symposium continues the epoch story of American industrial watchmaking related at the 2002 Time Symposium. James Arthur Lecturer, Antoine Simonin, Past Director of the Watchmakers of Switzerland Technical Education Program (WOSTEP), will be joined by eleven other distinguished speakers from four countries to discuss how innovative technology, economics and human factors shaped the burgeoning late Nineteenth Century US watch industry and influenced watchmaking worldwide. Speakers Larry Buchan, George Collord, Professor Kenneth DeLucca, Dr. Timothy Flower, Mike Harold, Jeffrey Hess, Gerrit Nijssen, Craig Risch, and Kent Singer, will relate how watches designed by American manufacturers reflected American watchmaking technology, labor organization and market imperatives of the period. David Penney, Antoine Simonin, and Alan Treherne will describe the mutual influences between the American and European watchmaking industries. Saturday afternoon will see special guest appearances by Webb C. Ball, D.F. Church, Albert Potter, E. C. Fitch and other luminaries of Nineteenth Century American watchmaking.

  Special Exhibit:

The Cleveland symposium will feature a special exhibit of watches, clocks, fobs, ephemera and important documents of the Webb C. Ball Watch Co., from the Ball Estate collection and other outstanding private collections, presented in period jeweler’s display cases. Don’t miss this definitive Webb C. Ball exhibit of all time!
